Best Pre Workout Smoothie Recipes for Bodybuilders

I’ve given more than 6 Reasons Why Bodybuilders Should Drink Smoothies and Raw Juices Daily, so now I thought I’d give you some actual recipes to try.

You’ll need a trustworthy juicer and blender for these recipes.

Although these pre workout smoothie recipes can be made to drink any time of the day, I handpicked the following ones especially for before your workout.

For your convenience, I strongly recommend you buy a vacuum flask so you can store your smoothie in it, and take it with you to the gym. It keeps the smoothie fresh and cold, so that very little of the nutrients are lost.

Why not make two servings of the pre workout smoothie, and drink one serving before you leave for the gym, then take the rest with you so you can drink it after your kick-ass bodybuilding workout

Do your best to use organic and fairtrade fruits and vegetables as much a possible. They make a big difference to your long-term health!

Super protein smoothie

For all you protein fanatics out there, you’ll be glad to know that this smoothie contains all of the essential amino acids needed for muscle building (because of the superfood spirulina). This smoothie also contains healthy doses of calcium, iron, zinc and boron.

Calcium, zinc and boron are good for your bones. Zinc is vital in the maintenance of a strong immune system and aids your system for a faster muscle recovery. Iron is essential for healthy blood and boron also helps produce natural steroids in your body!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 small pineapple (peeled).
  • 1/2 lime (peeled).
  • 2 apples.
  • 1/2 avocado (make sure it’s ripe—avocado is ripe when it yields to a light squeeze.)
  • 1 banana, sliced into smaller chunks.
  • 1/4 teaspoon spirulina powder.
  • Ice cubes.
  • 1 teaspoon bee pollen.

Directions

  1. Chop the apples, pineapple and lime and put into the juicer.
  2. Put the rest of the ingredients in the blender and whilst blending, pour the juice in slowly.
  3. Blend until smooth.

If you don’t like the taste of spirulina, you can get them in capsule form as well and simply eat them with the shake.

Matcha green tea vanilla velvet

An incredibly interesting taste with the green tea and vanilla combination, leaving you with a super-healthy, super protein shake that will have you making this baby in batches.

The green tea powder is particularly potent in terms of its nutritional composition as referenced below from the EatGreenTea website:

Drinking fresh brewed tea can be both healthy and enjoyable. However, the vast majority of nutritional components found in green tea leaves are never transferred over to the brewed tea. When you throw away tea leaves, you are throwing away a cornucopia of nutrients. Many tea experts recommend triple brewing good quality tea leaves. While this will continue to provide great tasting tea, you will still not be receiving the vast majority of the nutrients that are available in the green tea leaves.

Green tea is loaded with flavonoids, a potent variety of antioxidants. A great deal of research has been done (much of it referenced on this web site) which demonstrates that the antioxidants found in green tea are extremely beneficial to our health in many ways. Most of the research around green tea has focused on catechins (a specific type of flavonoid) which make up the largest percentage of what is found in green tea leaves. It is believed the catechins are the real powerhouse of the green tea plant. The table below was pulled from the USDA web site and provides a fantastic look at just how much more beneficial the whole tea leaf is compared to just drinking the brew. For the most part there is an 8,000 to 10,000% increase in antioxidants found in whole green tea leaves compared to brewed green tea. The evidence is very convincing. The best way to get the most nutritional benefit from green tea is to eat the whole leaf.

Those are pretty big benefits if you ask me, and adding edible green tea to your pre workout smoothie is an easy way to get your daily health boost without any hassle.
