Just like what your Mom told you, vegetables are rich in vital nutrients, minerals and fibre. The fibre helps to burn fat, helps in the digestion and elimination processes, plus it makes you feel fuller for longer.
So get these on your grocery shopping list now:

- To me, one of the best and most satisfying snack or breakfast is a fresh smoothie of my favorite fruits. Try it!

Nuts and seeds are fatty foods, but they’re the heart-healthy kind and they help burn body fat because they help you maintain good levels of fat burning hormones. Nuts and seeds are packed-full with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber and protein.
Nuts help curb appetite and cravings by keeping you feeling full for longer. Because of their high protein, calcium and fiber, they also help regulate blood sugar levels. Ironically enough, the Journal of Nutrition found that those who eat nuts regularly have decreased levels of body fat.

- Throw out your butter and margarine and substitute with nuts butters instead – cashew and almond butters taste the best, in my opinion.
- Strive to add a small handful of nuts or seeds to your salads and snacks.
- Make some energy bars using oatmeal, nuts and seeds using honey or dates as natural sweeteners. It’s oh so yummy and very filling! Perfect as post or pre-workout snacks!
4. Green Tea
Green tea has always been known as a health drink. Green tea contains caffeine, catechins and polyphenols which actually give your body a metabolic boost and thus aid in fat burning. Catechins are believed to prevent absorption of fat and help stabilize glucose levels in the body.
How to Lose Weight Fast with Green Tea:
- Replace sodas, coffee, black tea, juice (from concentrate) and “energy drinks” with Green tea instead
- Try iced green tea and keep some in the fridge for easy access. Sweeten with a natural sweetener and add a lemon or lime slice.

- Fish – Those rich in Omega-3 fatty acids are ideal, like salmon, herring and mackerel

I personally prefer fish over lean meats because they have less total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol than meat and poultry, plus many of them are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Some studies have shown that Omega 3s may help lower blood fats (triglycerides) and thus help reduce risk of cardiac death.

- Of course, common sense will dictate that you must prepare these foods using low fat cooking methods as much as possible. So grill, steam or bake them instead of frying.
- If you’re addicted to junk foods and fast foods, a useful trick is to master the art of food substitution. Regardless of what food you’re craving for, there are ways to still choose fat burning foods and satisfy your cravings. Just get creative about it!
- If you absolutely have to fry then use a low fat oil spray – never deep fry!
- Steer clear of eating these foods along with fattening foods. You’d think this is common sense, but this is actually one of the most common mistakes people make. If you can, avoid condiments altogether like mayonaise, ketchup, barbeque sauce, cheese sauce, brown sauce, etc. And go easy on salad dressings – choose the natural and lower-fat alternatives instead. A good dressing with healthy fats is virgin olive oil and just a squeeze of lemon.
